The prompt had stopped appearing on my phone. Same build that worked a week earlier, no changes, and <code>ATTrackingManager.requestTrackingAuthorization()</code> coming back <code>.notDetermined</code> in seven milliseconds with no prompt and no error.</p> <p>Then I opened Instagram, which had never asked me either.</p> <h2 id="what-the-system-actually-says">What the system actually says</h2> <p>The app only ever sees the outcome, so the app is the wrong place to look. The decision is taken somewhere else, by a daemon called <code>tccd</code>.</p>
